易混淆字彙：「rise, arise, raise, arouse」
大考模考題：

選項
(A) arose (B) aroused (C) rose (D) roared
rise 不及物動詞，三態為 rise- rose- risen，意思有
1. 上升
The sun rises from the east every day
（太陽每天從東邊升起。）
The balloon rose gently (up) into the air.
（氣球慢慢升入空中。）
2. 增加，上漲，升高 = increase
The sales number rose by 10% last month.
（業績上個月上漲了10%）
The price of houses has risen significantly over the past decade.
（過去十年來，房價明顯的上漲）
3. 起床
My grandfather rises at five every morning to do his exercises.
（我祖父每天早晨五點起床鍛煉。）
4. 起身，站起，起立
She rose from her chair to welcome us.
（她從椅子上站起身來迎接我們。）
常見片語 give rise to = lead to 導致
The food shortage gave rise to severe famine.
食物短缺造成了嚴重饑荒。
arise 不及物動詞，三態為 arise- arose- arisen，意思有
1. 出現 = appear
If any opportunity arises, I will seize it.
（如果任何機會出現的話，我會抓住它）
2. 發生 = happen, occur

arouse 及物動詞，三態為 arouse- aroused- aroused，意思有
1. 引起；喚起；激起
It's a subject that has aroused a lot of interest.
（這個話題引起了很多人的興趣。）
Our suspicions were first aroused when we heard a muffled scream.
（我們聽到一聲悶聲尖叫，就開始起了疑心。）
raise 及物動詞，三態為 raise- raised- raised，意思有
1. 舉起；抬起；提起
Would all those in favor please raise their hands?
（贊成的人請舉手好嗎？）
2. 增加；提高；改善
The government plan to raise taxes.
（政府計劃增稅。）
I had to raise my voice to make myself heard over the noise.
（在一片喧嘩聲中，我不得不提高嗓門好讓大家聽見。）
The inspector said that standards/bars at the school had to be raised.
督學說學校必須提高辦學水準。
Our little chat has raised my spirits.
（我們閒聊了一小會，我的情緒好些了。）
2. 引起 + doubts/fears/suspicions，導致 + issues/problems
Her answers raised doubts/fears/suspicions in my mind.
（她的回答使我心裡感到疑惑/害怕/懷疑。）
This discussion has raised many important issues/problems.
（這次討論引出了很多重要的議題/問題。）
3. 籌募 + money/cash/capital/funds
I want to start my own business if I can raise the money/cash/capital/funds.
如果我能夠籌集到錢/現金/資本/資金的話，我想創辦自己的公司。
3. 養育 + a person/ an animal or plant
Her parents died when she was a baby and she was raised by her grandparents.
（她從小父母就去世了，是祖父母把她撫養大的。）
The lambs had to be raised by hand when their mother died.
（母羊死後，這些小羊只得靠人工餵養。）
The farmer raises chickens and pigs.
（這個農場主飼養雞和豬。）
