對英文文法有點研究的就會知道

形容詞 (adj.) 跟 副詞 (adv.) 本是同根生的概念，基本上就是親兄弟

形容詞通常字尾加上 ly 就搖身一變成 副詞囉

只不過他們各自的功能不太一樣

最常見形容詞拿來修飾「名詞」或是拿來當「補語」

例如：She is a beautiful girl. （ beautiful 修飾girl ）

例如：She is beautiful. （ beautiful 當主詞補語 ）

而副詞用來修飾「一般動詞」還有「形容詞」「副詞」以及「句子」

例如：She spoke very loudly. （ loudly 修飾 spoke 這個動詞 ）

不過呢，語言總是有些例外

就像「音樂」不念「ㄌㄜˋ」而是「ㄩㄝˋ」一樣

以下五組常見英文中「形容詞跟副詞長一樣」的例子

並且加上 ly 一樣是副詞，不過是不一樣的意思

怎麼分辨，就是看句子中修飾的詞是誰

  high (adj.) 高的; 嗑藥後的嗨 (adv.) 在高處，高高地

例子： 

We want to build a building with a high ceiling. 當形容詞修飾後方 building 名詞

He was high on heroin at the time. 當形容詞修飾前面主詞

The bird flies high. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 fly

You'll have to hit the ball high to get it over that net. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 fly

加上 ly 一樣是副詞 不過 highly (adv.) 指的是 非常，極其

例子：

He got a highly paid job. 當副詞修飾後面形容詞 paid

I highly recommend this restaurant.  當副詞修飾後面動詞 recommend

My boss speaks highly of John in the company. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 speak

（speak highly of sb 指 對某人評價很高、高度讚揚）

  hard (adj.) 硬的; 困難的 (adv.) 努力滴

例子： 

This is a hard question. 當形容詞修飾後方 question 名詞

This rock is hard. 當形容詞修飾前面主詞

We work hard to make more money 當副詞修飾前面動詞 work

Students study hard to pass the exam. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 study

加上 ly 一樣是副詞 不過 hardly (adv.) 指的是 幾乎不（頻率副詞的一種，有否定意味）

例子：

He hardly cries in front of people. 當副詞修飾後面動詞 cries

I'm hardly late for school. 當副詞修飾後面形容詞 late

My mom hardly believes the truth. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 believes

  late (adj.) 晚的; 遲到的; 末期的 (adv.) 晚滴; 遲到滴

例子： 

It was late summer when it happened.  當形容詞修飾後方 summer 名詞

John is late. 當形容詞修飾前面主詞

We came to work late this morning. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 came

I have to work late tonight to deal with those urgent issues. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 work

加上 ly 一樣是副詞 不過 lately (adv.) 指的是 近來（通常與 have/has + p.p. 一起用）

例子：

I haven't been feeling so well lately. 當副詞修飾前面形容詞 well

Have you been doing anything interesting lately? 當副詞修飾前面動詞 do

  near (adj.) 近的 (adv.) 近滴

例子： 

The hotel is near the airport. 當形容詞修飾前面主詞

Come sit near me. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 sit

加上 ly 一樣是副詞 不過 nearly (adv.) 指的是 幾乎

例子：

I've nearly finished that book you lent me. 當副詞修飾後面動詞 finish

It was so funny - we nearly died laughing. 當副詞修飾後面動詞 die

  early (adj.) 早的; 初期的 (adv.) 早滴

例子： 

I'm an early bird. 當形容詞修飾後方 bird 名詞

It is still early in the morning. 當形容詞修飾前面主詞

Mary wakes up early every day. 當副詞修飾前面動詞 wake up
